My name is Matt Girouard and I’m an artist and designer from Chicago, IL.
My work draws inspiration from things like nature and animals, technology, horror and the supernatural, tattoos, logos and lettering, filmmaking, and storytelling. All of these things find their way into my work, often filtered through the colors and energy of the cartoons, toys, and video games of the 1990’s that I grew up with.
I specialize in bold colors, clean lines, hand lettering, and worldbuilding. I try to use these skills to create work that is detailed and captivating, evoking feelings of otherworldliness and mystery while still maintaining a taste of familiar nostalgia.
I began my professional artist career in 2008 at the age of 16 working with bands and clothing lines designing t-shirts. In college I took on more design based jobs including logos and branding, posters, and packaging design. During this time I also created the web-comic shorts Hubble and Holy Moses, and also ran the anime and gaming YouTube channel Rain Dinners, creating all of the branding and graphics packages for our videos. After college I worked as a Studio Manager and assistant to fantasy artist, Peter Mohrbacher. Through out my career, I’ve had the privilege to work with brands and organizations like NASA, The Completionist, Hot Topic, Rise Records, and Victory Records.
As of 2023, I have “retired” from freelancing in pursuit of my own personal work.
